The Prophet's Mosque

Definition of place

Madīnah It is the City of Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him), the destination to which he immigrated, and the place where he was buried. It is also known as "Al-Madīnah al-Nabawiyyah" (the Prophet’s City) and "Al-Madīnah al-Munawwarah" (the Illuminated City). It is the Prophet’s City in the Hejaz region, in the western Arabian Peninsula. It is the Prophet’s City, one of the most famous regions in western Saudi Arabia.

Characteristics of place

1. Allah Almighty chose it to be the destination of the Prophet’s Hijrah.
2. It houses the Prophet’s mosque and grave.
3. Prayer in the Prophet’s Mosque equals a thousand prayers performed elsewhere, except for the Sacred Mosque in Makkah.
4. It was the first capital of Islam, from which the greatest conquests were launched.
5. Its names include: Al-Madīnah, Tībah, and Tābah, and it used to be called Yathrib before Islam. Then, the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) forbade this appellation, as reported in authentic Hadīths. It is also known as "Al-Madīnah al-Nabawiyyah" and "Al-Madīnah al-Munawwarah".
6. The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated Allah Almighty to bless its Sā‘ and Mudd (units of measurements), as reported in an authentic Hadīth.
7. The Anti-Christ will not enter it, according to authentic Hadīths.

The Sacred Mosque

Definition of place

The mosque encircling the Ka‘bah in Makkah It is located in the center of Makkah, to the west of the Arabian Peninsula. It is located in the center of the city of Makkah, in western Saudi Arabia, in Asia.

Characteristics of place

1. It is the greatest and most sacred and first mosque in Islam. It houses the Ka‘bah.
2. It is described as 'Sacred' because it is forbidden therein to fight or hunt, pick up lost items, or cut off plants. Its names also include: Al-Bayt al-‘Atīq (the Ancient House), the Ka‘bah, Al-Bayt al-Harām (the Sacred House).
3. It is the Qiblah of Muslims till the Day of Judgment and the first among the three mosques to which journeys are to be conducted.
4. The only mosque to which the journey of Hajj is to be performed, and prayer in it equals a hundred thousand prayers elsewhere.
5. It comprises remarkable landmarks and relics, including the Ka‘bah, the Station of Ibrahīm, Zamzam Well, and the Black Stone.
6. The main gates of the Sacred Mosque are: King ‘Abdul-‘Azīz Gate, No (1), in the western yard; As-Safa Gate, No (11), to the direction of Sa‘i route; Al-Fat'h Gate, No (45), in the northern yard; ‘Umrah Gate, No (62), in the northern yard; and King Fahd Gate, No (79), in the western yard.
7. During the year in which the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) was born, the Sacred Mosque came under attack by Abraha, the Abyssinian. He set out with an army that contained a large elephant. As they reached Makkah, Allah sent upon them flocks of birds that destroyed them.
8. The Sacred Mosque had only been the Ka‘bah and the surrounding area, before Caliph ‘Umar built a wall around it.

As-Safa A small mountain located east of the Ka‘bah, Saudi Arabia. It lies at the foot of Mount Abu Qubays to the south-east of the Ka‘bah in Makkah. It lies to the south-east of the Ka‘bah, about 130 meters away. It is located near As-Safa Royal Palace.
1. As-Safa is a noble place, where the ritual of Sa‘i begins during Hajj or ‘Umrah.
2. The name 'As-Safa' occurs in the noble Qur’an.
3. The place witnessed the story of Hājar and her son Isma‘īl (Ishmael) (peace be upon both of them).
4. Mount As-Safa had previously been connected to Mount Abu Qubays. Then, it was separated from it during the expansion launched by Saudi Arabia in 1375 A.H. Some rocks were left in their place at the end of the mountain to mark the location of the ritual.
5. As-Safa has been attached to the Sacred Mosque, with a particular building that consists of four stories and has its gateways.
6. Before Islam, there had been an idol called 'Isāf' upon Mount As-Safa. The pagans used to wipe it and go around it until Islam came and removed that idol.

Al-Marwah A small mountain near Makkah.

This is where the ritual of Sa‘i during Hajj or ‘Umrah ends. It is located beside the Sacred Mosque in Makkah, the Arabian Peninsula. It lies to the north-east of the Sacred Mosque in Makkah, the Arabian Peninsula. It lies to the north-east of the Sacred Mosque, near Al-Qarārah District in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

1. Al-Marwah is a noble place, where the ritual of Sa‘i ends during Hajj or ‘Umrah.
2. The name 'Al-Marwah' occurs in the noble Qur’an.
3. The place witnessed the story of Hājar and her son Isma‘īl (Ishmael) (peace be upon both of them).
4. Mount Al-Marwah had previously been connected to Mount Qu‘ayqu‘ān. Then, it was separated from it during the expansion launched by Saudi Arabia in 1375 A.H.
5. Al-Marwah has been attached to the Sacred Mosque, with a particular building that consists of four stories and has its gateways.
6. Before Islam, there had been an idol called "Nā’ilah" upon Mount Al-Marwa. The pagans used to wipe it and go around it until Islam came and removed that idol.

‘Arafāt A level area outside the boundaries of the Sacred Precincts of Makkah, 20 km east of Makkah. It lies east of Makkah, on the road between Makkah and Taif, west of the Arabian Peninsula. It lies 20 km east of Makkah and 10 km away from Mina, in western Saudi Arabia.

1. The key ritual of Hajj is performed there and is known as "the Standing at ‘Arafah". It is to be observed from after the Zhuhr prayer till sunset on Dhul-Hijjah 9.
2. It is the only sacred site of Hajj that is located outside the boundaries of the Sacred Precincts of Makkah.
3. The name '‘Arafāt' occurs in the noble Qur'an.
4. The landmarks at ‘Arafāt include Namirah Mosque and Mount Ar-Rahmah, which consists of large black solid rocks and there is a seven-meter column standing at its summit. The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) delivered the farewell sermon at the foot of this mountain.
5. It is not part of the Sunnah to ascend this mountain. Rather, the standing can take place anywhere at ‘Arafāt; and it is better for a pilgrim to stand at the foot of the mountain and keep it between himself and the Qiblah, for this is what the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) did.

Qubā’ A district in the south of Madīnah, Saudi Arabia.

It is located south of the Prophet’s Mosque in Madīnah, the Arabian Peninsula. It is located south of the Prophet’s Mosque in Madīnah, Saudi Arabia. The Qubā’ Road passes through it.

1. It is a well-known district marked by abundance of gardens, farms, and population. It is now structurally connected to Madīnah.
2. It houses Qubā’ Mosque, which is the first mosque built by Muslims in Madīnah and where prayer equals one ‘Umrah for those who make ablution at home and go out intending to offer prayer in it.
3. The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) stopped at Qubā’ once he arrived in Madīnah.

’Uhud A large mountain overlooking Madīnah to the north. It is located north of Madīnah, in the western Arabian Peninsula. It is located north of Madīnah, Saudi Arabia, about 5 km away from the Prophet’s Mosque. 1. It is the best-known mountain in Madīnah. It has a great status in the Prophet’s sight and in the eyes of all Muslims.
2. It is a mountain loved by the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him), his noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), and all Muslims. The residents of Madīnah call it 'Henn'.
3. It is a red stony mountain that stands alone. It is situated within the Sacred Precincts of Madīnah. It is said to be one of the mountains of Paradise.
4. It comprises a small mountain called "the Mountain of Archers". It also includes the cemetery of ’Uhud martyrs, where 70 Companions killed during the battle of Uhud were buried.
5. It is nearly 7 km wide and approximately 250 m high.
6. The second major battle between the Muslims and the polytheists took place beside it, in the 3rd Hijri year. It is called the battle of ’Uhud.
7. It is impermissible to visit Mount ’Uhud in pursuit of divine reward or blessing from it or its stones. This is only permissible for the purpose of sightseeing and exploring.

Al-Baqī‘ The main cemetery for the people of Madīnah since the Prophet’s era. It lies east of the Prophet’s Mosque in Madīnah, in the western Arabian Peninsula. It lies to the east of the Prophet’s Mosque in Madīnah and is enclosed within a high marble-covered fence.

1. It is the best-known and biggest Muslim cemetery ever.
2. It is also known as "the cemetery of the believers" and "Baqī‘ al-Gharqad", for its land was covered with a kind of plant called 'boxthorn'.
3. Ten thousand Companions were buried therein, the first of whom was As‘ad ibn Zurārah al-Ansāri.
4. The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) would visit the cemetery of Al-Baqī‘ and supplicate for those buried therein.
5. We are recommended to visit this place and supplicate for those buried there, but it is not permissible to seek blessing from its soil or graves or conduct journeys to it.

At-Tan‘īm A place outside the Sacred Precincts northwest of Makkah. It is located between Makkah and Sarif in the Arabian Peninsula. At-Tan‘īm District is northwest of Makkah, about 6 km from the Sacred Mosque.

1. It is a well-known place that comprises At-Tan‘īm Mosque or ‘Ā’ishah Mosque.
2. It is the closest place of "Hill" (end of Ihrām) to the Sacred Mosque. It is also known as "Hayy al-‘Umrah".
3. It is called "At-Tan‘īm" because it lies between two mountains, one of which is "Na‘īm", situated southwest, and the other is "Nā‘im", situated northeast - and the valley is called "Nu‘mān".

Al-Juhfah A place between Makkah and Madīnah, east of Rābigh City. It is located between Madīnah and Makkah, in the western Arabian Peninsula. It lies 22 km to the east of Rābigh City, Saudi Arabia.
It is now a wasteland. 1. It is the Miqāt for the people of the Levant, the Maghrib region, and Egypt and anyone coming from their direction. It is also called "Mahya‘ah".
2. The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) invoked Allah Almighty to move the fever of Madīnah to it, for it was not part of the Muslim land at the time.
3. People assume Ihrām today from Rābigh City, because Al-Juhfah has become a wasteland.

Al-Ji‘rānah A village located northeast of Makkah on the road to Taif. It lies northeast of Makkah in the Arabian Peninisula. It is located outside the Sacred Precincts, 24 km northeast of Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

1. A famous and populous village that comprises a locality and an emirate.
2. The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) set out for ‘Umrah from there, after the battle of Taif.
3. The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) stayed there for 13 nights, where he distributed the spoils after his return from the battle of Hunayn.
4. It could be pronounced Al-Ji‘rānah or Al-Ji‘irrānah.

Al-Jamarāt Three locations for the throwing of pebbles in Mina, Makkah. It is located in Mina, east of the Sacred Mosque in Makkah in the western Arabian Peninsula. It is located in Mina, to the east of the Sacred Mosque in Makkah, in the west of Saudi Arabia.

1. Al-Jamarāt are three: the biggest Jamrah - also known as Jamrat al-‘Aqabah, and it is the nearest of them to Makkah - and the middle Jamrah and the small Jamrah.
2. At the time of pebble-throwing during Eid al-Ad'ha, Al-‘Aqabah biggest Jamrah is to be thrown in the forenoon, and then in the Days of Tashrīq, the three Jamarāt are to be thrown after noon, first the three small pebbles, followed by the middle ones, and then the largest pebbles.
3. This place witnessed the story of Ibrahīm (Abraham) (peace be upon him) when he threw Satan with seven pebbles.
4. It witnessed a lot of expansion and development after the incidents of stampede among the pilgrims which caused hundreds of deaths. The latest of these projects is a four-story bridge.

Dhul-Hulayfah A village on the Makkah Road, 7 km south of Madīnah. It is located south of Madīnah, in the west of the Arabian Peninsula. Currently, the Hijrah Road connects it to Madīnah, in western Saudi Arabia. 1. The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) would stop at it whenever he left Madīnah to perform Hajj or ‘Umrah.
2. It is the Miqāt for the people of Madīnah and those who pass by this city. It is the farthest Miqāt from Makkah.
3. It houses Dhul-Hulayfay Mosque where the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) prayed. It is known as the mosque of the Miqāt.
4. It is referred to among the general public as the wells of ‘Ali, based on the false belief that ‘Ali fought the jinns there. As for the widely held belief that it was named "the wells of ‘Ali" after ‘Ali ibn Dinnar who came to this Miqāt on a Hajj journey in 1898 and dug wells from which pilgrims could drink, this is not true either, since the appellation preceded the birth of this man.

Qarn al-Manāzil A place that is 55 km north of Taif City. It lies north of Taif in the western Arabian Peninsula. It is located north of Taif, Saudi Arabia, east of Makkah Highway.

1. It is the Miqāt for the people of Najd and those who come through it from the east. It is also known as "As-Sayl al-Kabīr".
2. It is one of the closest Miqāts to Makkah.
3. The scholars tried to set a Miqāt in parallel to Qarn al-Manāzil, to the south, at Muharram Valley, on Al-Hada Road. Would-be performers of Hajj or ‘Umrah can assume Ihrām there.

Muzdalifah A place between Mina and ‘Arafāt, southeast of the Sacred Mosque in Makkah. It is located between Mina and ‘Arafāt in Makkah, in the western Arabian Peninsula. It lies between Mina and ‘Arafāt, 10 km from the Sacred Mosque, east of Makkah, Saudi Arabia. 1. It is the third among the sacred sites by which the pilgrims pass as they perform the rituals of Hajj.
2. It houses Al-Mash‘ar Al-Harām Mosque.
3. The pilgrims stay there till the next morning - the day of Eid al-Ad'ha - and then descend to Mina.
4. Major development projects were carried out there for the purpose of providing better service to the pilgrims.

Mina A place east of Makkah on the way to Mount ‘Arafah. It is located east of Makkah, in the Arabian Peninsula. It lies to the east of Makkah near Al-‘Azīziyyah district, about 6 km from the Sacred Mosque.

1. It is one of the most honorable and blessed places.
2. Pilgrims go there on the Day of Nahr to pass the night till the 12th or 13th day.
3. It is a place where one of the rituals of Hajj is performed, from Dhul-Hijjah 8 to the end of the days of Tashrīq.
4. It comprises the locations where the three Jamarāt - the biggest, the middle, and the small - are thrown.

Yalamlam A place about 125 km south of Makkah that contains the Miqāt for the people of Yemen. It lies between Yemen and Makkah in the Arabian Peninsula. A locality in Al-Layth Governorate in the province of Makkah, now called As-Sa‘diyyah. 1. It is a multi-stream valley that starts narrow from the foot of Mount Yalamlam and widens bit by bit down the way.
2. It comprises the old Miqāt for the people of Yemen if they come through the Tuhāmah Road, near As-Sa‘diyyah, at the Miqāt Station.
3. The battle of Dhāt Nakīf took place there before Islam, between Quraysh and Banu Bakr tribes.

Badr The place of a renowned well in the west of Madinah. It lies to the west of Madinah, north of the Arabian Peninsula. It is located in Badr Governorate, about 150 km southwest of Madinah in Saudi Arabia.

1. It is known for its many historical sites and values and tourist areas.
2. The name 'Badr' is mentioned in the noble Qur’an.
3. The first battle between Muslims and polytheists took place there in 17 Ramadan, 2 AH. It is also known as the Day of the Criterion, the Great Battle of Badr, and the Badr of Fighting. Muslims achieved major victory in this battle.

Ghaar Thawr A cave in the north of Mount Thawr in Makkah. It lies in the north of Mount Thawr in Makkah, in the west of the Arabian Peninsula. It is located in the north of Mount Thawr in the Hijrah District of Makkah, 4 km north of the Sacred Mosque, in the west of Saudi Arabia. 1. One of the historic landmarks in Makkah.
2. The Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, and Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq hid in there during their Hijrah (migration) to Madinah.
3. It is mentioned in the Qur’an in Surat at-Tawbah.
4. It is a hollow rock, about 1.25 m high, that has two openings: one on the west side through which the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, and Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq entered, and another opening on the east side.
5. Climbing up to it as an act of worship is a religious innovation that has no basis in religion. However, going there just to see the place is not forbidden, unless one fears that the uninformed people would imitate him.

Al-Bat-haa’ A road between Al-Hujoon and the Sacred Mosque. It is a part of Makkah Valley, located between Al-Hujoon and the Sacred Mosque. It is located between Al-Hujoon and the Sacred Mosque. It comprises Al-Ghazzah and Sooq al-Layl.

1. The Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, alighted close to it.
2. This is not Al-Bat-haa’ of Quraysh; rather, it is another place near Mount Thawr.

Ath-Thaniyyah As-Sufla Al-Masfalah and every slope south of the Sacred Mosque. It lies south of the Sacred Mosque in Makkah, west of the Arabian Peninsula. Al-Masfalah, Ibrahim Al-Khaleel Street, between Mount ‘Umar and Mount Ajyaad. 1. It is a famous site located in lower Makkah.
2. The Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, left Makkah through it.

Ath-Thaniyyah Al-‘Ulya The upper area of Makkah, located between Al-Hujoon and the Sacred Mosque. It is located in Makkah, between Al-Hujoon and the Sacred Mosque from the northern direction. It is located in Makkah in Al-Mu‘allaah District, to the north of the Sacred Mosque in Saudi Arabia. 1. It is a famous site in Al-Bat-haa’ of Makkah, which comprises the cemetery of the Makkan people.
2. It is also known as Al-Bat-haa’ and Al-Abtah.
3. The Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, entered Makkah through it.

Al-Hudaybiyyah A place west of Makkah on the road to Jeddah. It is now called Ash-Shumaysi. It is located west of Makkah, on the road to the west coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It is located between the Makkah-Jeddah Old Road and Highway in Saudi Arabia. Nowadays, it is called Ash-Shumaysi, 24 km west of Makkah.

1. It is an old village famous for its landmarks that define the boundaries of the Sacred Mosque.
2. The Surah of Al-Fat-h was revealed in connection with it.
3. It witnessed Ar-Ridwaan Pledge of Allegiance and Al-Hudaybiyyah Treaty between Muslims and the Quraysh, in the month of Dhul-Qi‘dah, 6 AH.
4. The Prophet's first ‘Umrah in 6 AH was named after it, as he was prevented from proceeding by the polytheists there, and so he slaughtered his sacrificial animals, ended his state of Ihraam, and returned to Madinah.
5. Al-Hudaybiyyah Mosque is located there, on the right side for those who enter Makkah. Some visitors mistake it for Ash-Shajarah Mosque. It is not religiously permissible to seek blessing in its ruins or walls.

Al-Hujoon A mountain in Makkah north of the Sacred Mosque. It lies north of the Sacred Mosque in Makkah in the west of the Arabian Peninsula. It is located north of the Sacred Mosque in the west of Saudi Arabia. It is now known as Ree‘ al-Hujoon.

1. A famous place in Makkah.
2. The Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, ordered his standard to be raised there on the day of the Conquest of Makkah.
3. Al-Ma‘laah, a cemetery for the people of Makkah where some of the Companions are buried, is at the foot of this mountain.
4. The Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, entered Makkah from Al-Hujoon Road.

Al-Khandaq (the Trench) A long trench that was dug by the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, and his Companions, in the northwest of Madinah. It is located northwest of Madinah, between Al-Harratayn, in the west of the Arabian Peninsula. It is located in Al-Fat-h District in Madinah, in the west of Saudi Arabia. Al-Fat-h Mosque was built near the place of Al-Khandaq.

1. It was a historic trench prepared by Muslims for repelling the disbelievers. It was made in the form of half a circle, too deep to get out of and too wide to jump over.
2. It was mentioned in the Battle of the Trench, which is also known as the Battle of Al-Ahzaab (The Confederates), in 5 AH.
3. Salmaan al-Faarisi, may Allah be pleased with him, proposed to the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, the idea of digging a trench around Madinah.
4. Muslims achieved victory and the disbelievers of the Quraysh and their allies were defeated.

Thabeer A great mountain in Makkah east of the Sacred Mosque. It lies between Makkah and Mina in the west of the Arabian Peninsula. It is located in the ‘Adl District, north of the Sacred Mosque in Makkah to the left of the road to Mina. 1. One of the largest mountains in Makkah that lies between Makkah and ‘Arafah.
2. Other names: Thabeer Ghaynaa’, Thabeer al-Athbirah, and Jabal ar-Rakham. Before Islam, it was called Sameer and later Safar.
3. The Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, reportedly ascended it and ordered it to be still when it was shaking.
4. Before Islam, people would not come down from Muzdalifah until the sun rose over the top of this mountain.
5. A number of other Makkan mountains are also called Thabeer, the largest being: Thabeer al-Ahdab, Thabeer al-A‘raj, and Thabeer Thawr.

Thaniyyat al-Wadaa‘ The northern entrance to Madinah, at the beginning of the road that runs alongside Mount Sal‘. It lies north of Ash-Shaam Road close to the Shaami Gate. It is located to the west of the Prophet's Mosque at the meeting point of the Sayyid ash-Shuhadaa’ Road and Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq Road, known as Sultaanah.

1. A famous historic place that used to be the entry point to Madinah and where travelers out of Madinah were bid farewell.
2. The Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, held a horse race from there to the Banu Zurayq Mosque.
3. According to some scholars, the famous Nasheed (chant) "Tala‘a al-badru ‘alayna" was sung there when the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, was returning from the Battle of Tabook.
4. There is another Thaniyyat Al-Wadaa‘ in the south of Madinah on the Quba Mosque Road by the Ottoman castle.

Hiraa’‎ A cave in An-Noor Mountain, east of Makkah, where the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, used to go to worship Allah. It is situated northeast of Makkah, in the Arabian Peninsula. It is located 4 km from the Holy Mosque in An-Noor Mountain, east of Makkah, to the left when going toward Mount Arafaat, in Saudi Arabia. 1. A well-known Makkan cave in An-Noor Mountain.
2. The Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, used to seclude himself in this cave to contemplate and meditate.
3. The first Surah of the Qur’‎an was revealed to our Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, in this cave.
4. It is a religious innovation to climb Mount Thawr with the intention of drawing closer to Allah, not supported by any Shariah-approved evidence. However, if it is done with the intention of seeing and exploring it, there is no reason why this should not be done, unless one fears that ignorant people may misinterpret this and take it as an example to follow.

‘Ayr A mountain located south of Madinah, close to Dhul-Hulayfah. It lies south of Madinah, west of the Arabian Peninsula. It is located south of Madinah, 8 km from the Prophet's Mosque, such that it is visible from Al-Miqat Mosque to the direction of Makkah.

1. A black straight mountain. It is also called ‘Ayr al-Waarid. On top of it, there is another mountain called ‘Ayr As-Saadir.
2. It borders Madinah from the south.
3. Some people believe that ‘Ayr is one of the mountains of Hell. But there is no authentic information to support this belief.

Qarn ath-Tha‘aalib An ancient mountain that overlooked Mina in Makkah. It lies close to Mina in Makkah, west of the Arabian Peninsula. It was adjacent to Al-Bay‘ah Mosque from the southeast direction, next to Jamrat al-‘Aqabah, and yet was removed for expansion purposes.

1. It is where Jibreel (Gabriel), peace be upon him, called the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, after he had introduced himself to some tribes in Taa’if.
2. It is also the name of a place close to Qarn al-Manaazil, which is the Miqat of the people of Taa’if. Such a place is Nakhlah which is known today as An-Nazlah al-Yamaaniyyah that lies next to the Military Investigation Center.

Kadaa’ A road in upper Makkah known today as Ree‘ Al-Hujoon. It lies west of Makkah close to Qu‘ayqi‘aan Mountain in the Arabian Peninsula. Al-Hujoon Street between the two cemeteries of Al-Ma‘laah north of the Sacred Mosque close to Afwaaj at-Tawbah Hotel in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. 1. A famous gorge in Makkah. It was narrow in the past, but now it is wide and passable.
2. The Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, entered Makkah through it.
3. Muslims passed through it on the Day of the Conquest of Makkah.

Dhul-Hulayfah Mosque A major mosque at the Miqat (place to start the pilgrimage) for the people of Madinah. It lies south of Madinah, close to Waadi al-'Aqeeq in the west of the Arabian Peninsula. It lies in the Dhul-Hulayfah District, south of Madinah and close to the Hijrah Road in the west of Saudi Arabia. 1. One of the Prophet's famous mosques in Madinah.
2. It houses the Miqat from which the people of Madinah and those who pass by there adopt Ihraam (the sacred state for pilgrimage).
3. Its other names are: the Shajarah (Tree) Mosque, the Miqat Mosque, the Muhrim Mosque, and the Ihraam Mosque.
4. One of the places where the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, prayed.
5. The Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, dismounted to rest there in the shade of a tree when he was going to Makkah for 'Umrah or Hajj.
6. The mosque was built during the time of 'Umar ibn 'Abdul-'Azeez and was renovated during the Abbasid era, in the Ottoman era during the reign of Sultan Muhammad IV, and again during the reign of King Fahd ibn 'Abdul-'Azeez.

Al-‘Aqabah A place to the west of Mina in Makkah in Saudi Arabia. It is located in the western entrance to Mina in Makkah in the Arabian Peninsula. It lies to the west of Mina, 4 km away from the Sacred Mosque in Makkah in Saudi Arabia.

1. It houses Jamrat al-‘Aqabah, also known as Al-Jamrah al-Kubra, which pilgrims throw pebbles at starting the day of ‘Eed until the last day of Tashreeq.
2. It witnessed the first Al-‘Aqabah pledge of allegiance given by the notables of Al-Aws and Al-Khazraj tribes to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, and then the second pledge.
3. A mosque was built there, 300 m northeast of Jamrat al-‘Aqabah. It is known today as the Bay‘ah Mosque.
4. Al-‘Aqabah is also the name of a city in the southernmost part of Jordan and a place in Iraq west of Baghdad.
